Freedom is....
For writer's workshop today, I read the picture book called Courage. Each page has a description from a kid's perspective what Courage is. After reading the story, I had each group of kids write what they thought Freedom was on a sentence strip. This is what they came up with:
Freedom is when you go out and having fun.
Freedom is the right to be free!
Freedom is staying up late on Monday because friends come to your house to watch Monday night football.
Freedom is riding a horse.
Freedom is a reward after working.
Freedom is the unimaginable joy when you are doing the thing you love!
Freedom is being born!
Freedom is being yourself.
Freedom is America.
Freedom is going to the bathroom after sitting through a movie after drinking 2 sodas!
Freedom is a dream of a wonderful thing!
Freedom is a happy feeling when you are trusted with a responsibility.
Freedom is having nothing to worry about.
One of my favorites: Freedom is when your parents are gone.
What is freedom to you?

Ashley is coming!!
Ashley and Donny are coming for a business thing for Donny. I can't wait for them to get here! It feels like forever since I have seen them, even though it was only the beginning of summer. They will be here on Friday and will be here all weekend! (Funny thought, we will be having a slumber party in my room since all the rooms have roommates in them....) More the merrier!!

Here We Go
So, I am heading into my room right now to paint my wall. I bought the paint and supplies last night. Now, I'm in the process of moving things away from the wall so I can reach it. Stay tuned the next few days....pictures are coming. :) (unless my batteries die...)

Going Green
I got the paint for my room tonight. I am thinking about starting a fun project all by myself painting an accent wall in my room. I am so excited!! I just wish Mom or Ashley or Angela or Donny, or Dad or anyone of my miracle working painting crew was going to be here to help me. It may turn out great, or it may turn out to be a disaster. I am hoping for the first.....wish me luck. :)

Fifth Grade Thoughts and Jokes
We were telling jokes at the end of the day one afternoon. One little boy shared a joke that went like this. Why do sharks like to swim in salt water? Because pepper water makes them sneeze!
Thought: we were doing a research project on explorers. One little boy pronounced rather loudly that if Dora the Explorer was a REAL explorer, she would have been shot like 6 times already.
Lucky for her, she's a cartoon character, I guess. :)

No picture...
The reason why there isn't a picture on that last post is because I want to put my whole room together before I post a cute picture. It doesn't do the miracle justice to take a picture of it in the plastic container. Pictures soon to come. Stay tuned!
SCORE!
I have had my eye on a duve cover from Bed Bath and Beyond for a long time. The base is white, and there are pretty multi-shaded leaves all over it. This beautiful treasure came at a pretty penny price of 99 bucks for just the cover. The pillows were another story....and another 40 bucks a piece. Seriously-who would pay that?? I went to TJ Max tonight and found a queen size comforter, pillow shams, and 3 full throw pillows to match for 85 bucks with tax. It's actually more of what I had in mind anyway. The leaves are a darker green rather than a yellow green. I have been trying to match paint chips to compliment the previous bed spread but ended up needing to go extremely bright in order to make it look right. I didn't want my room to be that bright. I wanted more mellow, more relaxing shades of green. I found it! I am so excited to paint one wall green and get my queen size bed put together in order to use my pretty comforter and make this a truly awesome bedroom! I just couldn't believe I found something I liked better from TJ Max. Miracles really do happen. :)

I Don't Have Anything to Write About
One thing I've been focusing on with my kids lately is developing ideas in writing. It's actually part of a writing process called the Six Traits of Writing. Developing good ideas is the first component or trait. We have been focusing on the fact we can get an idea of things to write about from anything and everything we experience; things that happen on our street, eating dinner, walking to school, getting ready for bed etc. I had to smile this morning as I was thinking about Mom's email she sent me the other day saying she checks my blog every day. I haven't updated it in a long time because I don't have anything to write about. Maybe I should take my own advice I teach my kids and use it to write something on my blog. :)
